Biography

Mohinder Suresh was conceived to heal his dying sister, Shanti, but was born too late to save her life. Luckily for his self worth, he didn't find out any of this until he was gone 30, and his childhood passed relatively normally. He was never left wanting attention from his mother or grandparents, though his father was often distant. As Mohinder grew older, he learnt to resent this distance between him and his father, struggling to please the man at every turn.

The family's wealth, and Mohinder's inherited enthusiasm for science, meant that his late teenage years brought him the best education he could get, spending three years away from home and getting his undergraduate degree at the University of Cambridge, England. First class degree earnt, he returned home to do his doctorate in Genetics at his father's University, yet again trying to earn some sort of worth in the man's eyes.

After receiving his doctorate, Mohinder was happy to carry on at the University like his father before him, whilst his father took off to New York on the grounds of research. When Mohinder discovered the nature of the research - genetic abnormalities leading to superhuman powers - he had begged his father to be allowed to help, but was yet again shot down by the man he idolised so much. That was to be one of the last conversations they had, before his father's research turned traitor and killed the man.

Now, Mohinder lives in Brooklyn, New York, having followed his father to continue his work and seek revenge for his untimely death. For a while he was able to keep below the radar, working independently and tracking down people with the genetic marker his father had discovered. In time, however, he was found by an organisation known as The Company, and spent time working with them and for them, whilst trying to carry on his own research at the same time.

Out of the frying pan and into the fire, Mohinder returned to his own devices only to create a formula that could give powers to the powerless. Using himself as a test subject, he gained powers, but with it his body began to mutate. Desperate for a cure, Mohinder fell in with Pineheart, a group run by Arthur Petrelli, who promised him his cure in return for his scientific skill.

At the present point in canon, Mohinder is cured of his mutation, and life is sort of back to normal. He senses, however, that this is the calm before the storm.

Verse specific information

after_shanti - What if Adam Monroe had been successful in releasing the Shanti virus? In this RPG, Adam has released a strain of the virus, one that has killed all non-evolved humans and a select few others. In this post-apocalyptic new world, how can our select few heroes even begin to rebuild the planet? Mohinder has survived thanks to the healing power of his blood, and is part of the team working out how to heal a sick world. Unknown to all but Peter Petrelli, Mohinder has also just entered a sexual relationship with Sylar, whilst outwardly trying to remain a rock for Matt and Molly. Unfortunately, the two aren't going to work together...

Anything But Conventional - A PSL with

heroslayer, based exclusively on AIM. Based some time after the end of S2, Mohinder and Gabriel are now in a well-established relationship. Mohinder continues to work for the Company, and has recently moved out of his apartment to live permanently with Gabriel. Despite their constant need to remind each other that their relationship is anything but conventional, they are finding themselves in a surprisingly domesticated situation. They're engaged, or as close as they ever will be to it, and the flight to India to meet the mother-in-law is booked.

Corruption - A PSL with

heroslayer, AU and speculative for S3. Following the S2 finale, Sylar was recaptured by the Company, before playing off Mohinder's continuing decline into madness to create a chance at escape. Guards were killed, en-route, some by Mohinder's hands, and now the two of them are on the run together. With every step, Mohinder is losing a little more of his sanity, and is quickly becoming just as power mad as his new partner. The discovery that he can give himself powers through injection is not helping matters, either...

Canon - Does what it says on the tin. Anything related to S3 will be well-marked and put under a spoiler cut.

Gotham!verse - Some time after the end of S2, Mohinder got talking to a young woman, Rachel, online, who claimed to have the power of manipulating shadows. A meeting with her confirmed that, yes, she did indeed carry the genetic marker for abilities. A mutual attraction between Mohinder and Rachel means that he is currently spending far more time with her than is strictly professional, and as a consequence is slowly starting to learn the ways of Gotham City.
